SkinPen Precision Aftercare
Supporting skin healing and collagen renewal
SkinPen Precision is a medical-grade microneedling treatment designed to stimulate collagen production, improve skin texture, and support long-term skin health. Following the correct aftercare is essential, as the skin experiences a temporary increase in water loss and sensitivity after treatment.
Your aftercare plays a key role in how your skin heals and how effective your results will be.
What to expect after treatment
It is normal for the skin to appear red, warm, and feel tight immediately after treatment. This typically settles over 24 to 72 hours.
Mild swelling, sensitivity, dryness or light flaking may occur as the skin begins its repair process. These responses are expected and temporary.
First 24 hours
For the first 24 hours after your SkinPen treatment, do not apply any products to the skin, including cleanser. This is important to reduce the risk of irritation or unintended reactions while the skin barrier is temporarily compromised.
If the skin feels uncomfortable, you may gently rinse with cool water as needed. Do not rub or scrub the skin.
Avoid touching the treated area with unclean hands.
Hydration and calming care
Keeping the skin well hydrated is essential after microneedling. Microneedling increases transepidermal water loss, so hydration supports comfort and recovery.
If you have been prescribed or supplied a post-procedure calming product, such as a barrier-repair or soothing serum, begin use after the first 24 hours as directed by your clinician.
Only use products that have been approved for post-microneedling use.
Sun protection
Avoid sun exposure on the day of treatment, as you will not be wearing sunscreen during the first 24 hours.
You may resume SPF use after 24 hours. Apply a broad-spectrum SPF 50+ daily and continue to minimise sun exposure for at least 72 hours following treatment. Protective clothing and hats are recommended.
Avoid tanning beds, spray tans, and self-tanning products.
Activity restrictions
Avoid strenuous exercise, excessive perspiration, saunas, steam rooms, spas and hot showers for at least 72 hours after treatment. Increased heat and blood flow can cause discomfort and irritation to healing skin.
Skincare restrictions
Avoid active or potentially irritating skincare products for at least one week after your SkinPen treatment. This includes retinoids, vitamin A derivatives, vitamin C, exfoliating acids, benzoyl peroxide, scrubs and astringents.
Your clinician will advise when it is appropriate to reintroduce active products based on your skin and treatment plan.
Treatment progression
SkinPen results are cumulative and typically achieved over a series of treatments. Your clinician will guide you on treatment frequency and timing based on your skin concerns and goals.
