About cosmelan®

The world’s leading professional depigmentation system for stubborn pigmentation

Cosmelan® is a medically recognised and highly effective depigmenting method used to correct and regulate skin pigmentation. It is widely regarded as one of the most advanced pigment-targeting treatments available, addressing both the visible pigment and the biological processes that cause its formation.

More than a peel or routine pigment cream, Cosmelan delivers a structured programme that combines a professional application with a tailored at-home protocol, designed for long-term pigment control and maintenance.

Why cosmelan® at The Dermal Clinic

I Cosmelan is not a cosmetic add-on or a one-day treatment. It is a medical depigmentation program that requires clinical judgement, careful screening and ongoing supervision.

At The Dermal Clinic, Cosmelan is delivered within a nurse-led, evidence-based framework that prioritises skin safety, long-term results and informed consent.

Every Cosmelan journey begins with a comprehensive consultation. Your skin is assessed in detail to determine the type, depth and triggers of your pigmentation, as well as your medical history, lifestyle factors and previous treatments. Cosmelan is only recommended when it is clinically appropriate.

This treatment requires precision. The in-clinic application is tailored to your skin type and pigment severity, including the length of time the mask remains on the skin. This decision is made clinically, not generically.

Equally important is what happens after treatment. Cosmelan success depends on education, compliance and ongoing guidance. You are supported through each phase of the program, with clear instructions, realistic expectations and regular review to ensure your skin is responding safely.

As a registered nurse, Loren brings a medical understanding of skin physiology, wound healing and inflammatory responses to every Cosmelan treatment. This allows early identification of complications, appropriate modification of protocols when needed, and a strong focus on protecting your skin barrier while correcting pigment.

Cosmelan is not positioned as a quick fix at The Dermal Clinic. It is offered as a structured skin correction program for clients who are ready to commit to the process and achieve meaningful, long-term pigment control.

This approach is what delivers results that last.

Cosmelan® Depigmentation Program

What does the Cosmelan treatment involve?

Cosmelan is a structured depigmentation program that works over approximately six months. It combines a single, professionally applied in-clinic treatment with a prescribed home care protocol to achieve optimal and long-lasting results.

In clinic

The treatment begins with one in-clinic session where a high-strength depigmenting mask is applied by your clinician. This initiates intensive pigment correction and targets excess melanin already present in the skin. The length of time the mask remains on the skin is individually tailored based on your skin type and pigmentation.

At home

Following the in-clinic treatment, Cosmelan continues at home with prescribed products that regulate melanin production, support skin recovery and reduce the risk of pigment returning. This phase is essential for long-term results and is guided closely by your clinician.

By combining professional treatment with ongoing home care, Cosmelan works on both existing pigment and the underlying causes of pigmentation for a more even, stable skin tone.

Home Care Products and Why They Matter

Cosmelan is not a single in-clinic treatment. The home care phase is an essential part of the Cosmelan method and is responsible for regulating pigment production, preventing rebound pigmentation, and protecting the skin as it heals and renews.

For the best and safest results, only the prescribed Cosmelan home care products are used throughout the program. These products are not interchangeable with other skincare products and should not be substituted.

Each product has a specific role within the treatment and works synergistically with the others.

The Cosmelan Home Care System

Cosmelan 2

Cosmelan 2 is the core of the home treatment phase. It is a medical-grade depigmenting cream designed to regulate melanocyte activity and suppress excess melanin production over time.

This product works beneath the surface of the skin to address the biological drivers of pigmentation, not just what is visible. Consistent application is critical. Reducing frequency or stopping early significantly increases the risk of pigment returning.

Cosmelan 2 may cause warmth, tingling, dryness or sensitivity, particularly in the early stages. These responses are expected and indicate active pigment regulation.

Melan Recovery

Melan Recovery is a barrier-repair and calming cream designed to support the skin throughout the Cosmelan process.

Cosmelan deliberately challenges the skin in order to correct pigment. Melan Recovery helps restore hydration, reduce inflammation, and protect the skin barrier while this correction is taking place.

This product can be applied multiple times per day as needed and is essential for comfort, tolerance and safety.

High-Protection SPF

Daily use of very high sun protection is non-negotiable during Cosmelan treatment.

UV exposure is one of the strongest triggers for pigmentation. Even brief or incidental sun exposure can stimulate melanocytes and undermine treatment results.

A broad-spectrum SPF 50+ designed for pigmentation management is used every morning and reapplied throughout the day. This protects the skin while pigment pathways are being actively regulated.

Supportive Cleansers and Calming Products

Gentle, non-irritating cleansers and soothing products are used to maintain skin hygiene without disrupting the skin barrier.

During Cosmelan treatment, the skin is more reactive. Using the correct supportive products reduces the risk of excessive irritation, dermatitis or inflammation that could trigger post-inflammatory pigmentation.

Why Only These Products Are Used

Cosmelan is a dose-dependent and interaction-sensitive treatment.

Introducing unapproved skincare, actives, essential oils, exfoliants or cosmeceuticals during the program can interfere with pigment regulation, increase irritation and compromise results.

The Cosmelan home care system is designed as a complete protocol. Each product supports a specific phase of treatment and protects the skin while depigmentation occurs.

For safety and effectiveness, no additional products should be added unless directed by your clinician.

Commitment and Consistency

The Cosmelan home phase typically continues for up to six months. This duration is intentional and necessary to regulate pigment production at a cellular level.

Clients who achieve the best outcomes are those who follow the home care protocol consistently, attend scheduled reviews, and maintain strict sun protection.

Cosmelan is not a quick fix. It is a structured medical skin correction program, and the home care phase is where long-term results are secured.

Clinical Guidance and Support

At The Dermal Clinic, you are not expected to navigate Cosmelan alone.

Your home care is reviewed regularly, and adjustments are made based on your skin’s response. Support is provided if sensitivity increases or if modifications are needed to maintain skin health while continuing pigment correction.

This level of supervision is essential for both safety and outcomes.n.
