LimeLight IPL Aftercare
Important information to support safe healing and optimal results
LimeLight IPL is a medical-grade light treatment designed to target pigmentation, redness and sun-related skin changes. Following the correct aftercare is essential to support skin healing, reduce the risk of complications, and achieve the best possible outcome.n.
What to expect after treatment
It is normal for the skin to appear mildly red or feel warm immediately after treatment. This typically settles within a few hours, though some clients may experience redness for up to 24 hours.
Pigmented areas such as freckles, sun spots or age spots may darken over the first few days. This is an expected response and indicates the pigment is being targeted. These areas will gradually fade or shed over 7 to 14 days. Do not pick or exfoliate these areas.
Mild swelling may occur, particularly around the eyes if the face has been treated. This usually resolves within 24 to 48 hours.
First 24 to 48 hours
Keep the skin cool and calm. A cool compress may be applied if the area feels warm or uncomfortable. Avoid heat exposure including hot showers, saunas, steam rooms, spas and vigorous exercise for at least 24 hours.
Do not apply active skincare products during this time. This includes retinoids, vitamin A, exfoliating acids, scrubs, benzoyl peroxide and vitamin C unless otherwise directed.
Make-up can be worn after 24 hours provided the skin is intact and not irritated.
Sun protection is essential
Strict sun avoidance is critical following LimeLight IPL. Treated skin is more sensitive to ultraviolet exposure and unprotected sun exposure increases the risk of pigmentation changes.
Avoid direct sun exposure for a minimum of four weeks post-treatment. Wear a broad-brimmed hat and protective clothing when outdoors. Apply a broad-spectrum SPF 50+ every morning and reapply every two hours when exposed to daylight, even on cloudy days.
Tanning beds and intentional tanning are not permitted before or after treatment.
Skincare guidance
Use a gentle cleanser and a bland, fragrance-free moisturiser until the skin has fully settled. Your clinician will advise when it is safe to reintroduce active products.
Avoid exfoliation, peels, needling, waxing or other heat-based treatments to the area until cleared by your clinician.
If dryness or mild flaking occurs, increase moisturiser use rather than exfoliating.
What not to do
Do not pick, scratch or remove darkened pigment.
Do not use harsh or active skincare products unless directed.
Do not apply heat to the area.
Do not expose the area to sun without protection.
When to contact the clinic
Please contact The Dermal Clinic if you experience increasing pain, blistering, significant swelling, signs of infection, or any reaction that concerns you. Early assessment allows prompt management and reduces the risk of long-term skin changes.
Treatment outcomes
LimeLight IPL works progressively. Pigmentation and redness typically improve over a series of treatments rather than a single session. Your clinician will guide you on treatment spacing and maintenance based on your skin type, concerns and response.
Results depend on adherence to aftercare instructions, sun protection, and individual skin factors.
